sam ganados: without you without them [exhibitions]
We’re delighted to present without you without them, a solo exhibition by artist sam ganados.
ganados has always been an artist unafraid to reflect their community back on itself. their work reveals the hidden behaviors and aggressions that femme, queer, and people of color endure. in the same breath, ganados is often the first to celebrate the power and beauty that exists within that same community. this endurance and celebration come from the need to protect the sense of play and self-expression each one of us carries within. this protection shines through ganados’ paintings. with softness and joy, their smooth brushstrokes and saturated color palettes feature community members many of us brush shoulders with, and even call friends.
this new body of work captures all of this through scenes of everyday life at the skatepark, music shows, and local backyards. without you without them offers an honest portrayal of a community still learning and growing, but without fear of dropping into the bowl and getting bruised.
alongside without you without them, sam has curated a group exhibition of local artists showcasing work on DIY and skate culture, titled THEM.
