jahahi “jahi” mazariego is a salvadoran-american painter and social worker. she is the eldest daughter of salvadoran parents who left el salvador in the 1980s due to the civil war. although she is an american born citizen, she has centered her profession and artwork in highlighting the strengths and vulnerabilities in living within the salvadoran diaspora. she has collaborated with several of her local organizations in creating community painting that is reflective of the cultural identities among the community members. she encourages community members by participating in the art piece by filling the white canvas with vibrant paint strokes. these paintings are displayed in their respective organizations or throughout the community where the representation of the latinx identity is not always visible.
